Raj Thackeray, president of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, recently said that the state of Maharashtra is facing a severe financial crisis due to GST and the lack of funds from the Centre. He said that the state is facing a shortage of around Rs 15,000 crore and called for urgent measures to be taken to address the situation. He also called for the Centre to provide more funds to the state in order to solve the financial woes.
Thackeray also criticised the Centre for not proposing a special package for Maharashtra in this year's budget. He said that while other states have received funds, Maharashtra has been ignored. He further urged the Union government to provide additional financial assistance to states like Maharashtra and Rajasthan that are facing acute economic distress.
Recently, Thackeray expressed support for the Maratha quota agitation, demanding reservation in government jobs and educational institutions. He said that if the state government will not provide reservation, his party will take up the matter at the Centre in order to ensure better opportunities for the Maratha community. He also expressed his willingness to have discussions with the Chief Minister of Maharashtra on the issue.
Thackeray has also launched a campaign against illegal hoardings and posters in the state. He stated that any such hoardings that are put up without permission should be taken down within 24 hours or face action. He also warned that any political party found to be responsible for putting up such hoardings will face strict action.
The latest update on Raj Thackeray is that he has spoken out against the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act in Maharashtra. He stated that the Act will cause immense distress to the state's people and that the state government should take strong action against it. He also urged the government to make a clear statement on the issue and ensure that the Act is not implemented in the state.
Additionally, Thackeray recently launched the 'Maharashtra Desh Bhakt Abhiyan' to honour people for their service during the COVID-19 pandemic. As part of this initiative, people who have contributed to fight the pandemic in any way, such as by providing medical care, running relief camps, and working in sanitisation drives, will be honoured by the party. The Abhiyan is set to begin from May 3 and will continue till May 9.
